What is the best way for a hearing student learning ASL go to be more active in Deaf culture and life?

How to be active in their group meeting.
To be able to be in close contact and talk with the Deaf.
Find places some of the ASL learning people would come and meet and talk.

  1. Many churches have deaf ministries. That’s how I learned ASL. My church had a translator, and that attracted deaf members of our community. I’d sit in the deaf area to watch the translator, and it allowed me to get to know deaf members of the church.

    You may want to also contact a local college or community center to see if they have a deaf group, club or organization.

    There’s not exactly a “group meeting,” seeing as it’s a disability or a challenge, not a club. It’s a subtle difference, but you’d do better to find someone who is interested in sign language, not necessarily someone who is deaf. Generally, the deaf can either gravitate to these groups, or people in these groups know people who are deaf….
