  1. ASL requires actual human interaction. see if classes are offered at the local community college or rec center in your area. contact your state’s Bureau of Disability for resources.

  2. You definitely need to take classes. DVDs and websites will support living lessons, but never ever be able to replace them entirely. SL is all about live action – one needs to be there with the people and teachers to take in the magic that is SL.

    I am learning German SL (actually Berlinisch SL to be exact) at an adult education centre, which they call Volkshochschule. You should have something similar where you live – just google closest deaf centres or schools.

  3. Classes are the BEST way- or just meeting up with some Deaf people! Many groupd are patient and kind to those just learning ASL. You can look online for “yourcity deaf” or search “yourcity deaf coffee” and see what’s out there.
