You can find ASL sites that illustrate the hand positions and begin to learn the language online, but to be fluent enough for a career you really need live courses. If you can’t find a school near you or don’t know where to start, ask at your courthouse. They are required to have an interpreter on call, and that person can probably give you tips on where to start. Also, if your local high school mainstreams students with hearing deficits, they have aides. Or contact Gallaudet University, one of the oldest colleges for hearing impaired. A nearby college might allow you to sign up for sign language courses without going for a degree.
