  1. I recommend against learning it online. It is better to learn by interacting with real people. If he signs up as a volunteer to work with deaf schoolchildren, they can teach him fast and free, or their instructors can. But he should also consider getting a hearing aid, if he is indeed hearing impaired. One of my kids once made me go for a hearing test, thinking I was hard of hearing. I passed it with flying colors. The doc told me, “You are not hard of hearing. Maybe you are hard of listening.”
